1. Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Amazon Web Services (AWS), formerly known as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), is a web service offered by Amazon.com. AWS provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. You pay only for what you use. In addition to providing computing power, AWS offers storage, data transfer, analytics, messaging, email, game services, mobile applications, monitoring, and many other services.
Elastic Compute Cloud (ECC) is a web-based service provided by Amazon.com that enables users to rent computer time and storage space. A user creates an account with Amazon, enters credit card information, and selects the amount of time and storage space desired. Once the order is placed, Amazon assigns a unique identifier to the customer’s account. The customer then accesses his or her account page where they enter their logon credentials and select whether they want to use their own computer or connect to a virtual private server (VPS). If using their own computer, the customer chooses the operating system and software programs he or she wants to run. If connecting to a VPS, the customer chooses the type of operating system and software programs to be installed. After selecting the options, the customer clicks the Start button and Amazon begins processing the request. When the job is complete, Amazon sends notification via e-mail or text message.
Simple Storage Service (S3) is a web service offered at no cost by Amazon.com that provides object storage. Object storage is similar to file storage in that objects are stored in buckets. However, unlike files, objects can be accessed directly without having to download them first. Objects are named after the bucket name and the date and time they were created.
Simple Queue Service (SQS) is a web service provided by Amazon. It is designed to help developers build scalable distributed systems. Developers create a queue by specifying a destination URL and a maximum number of messages. Messages are delivered to the queue according to the specified priority.
Relational Database Service (RDS) is a web service that provides relational database management capabilities. Users can set up databases, tables, columns, indexes, triggers, views, and security policies. Users can also specify how much memory and disk space should be allocated to each database instance.
6. Route 53
Route 53 is a web service offered through Amazon.com that provides DNS hosting. DNS is short for domain name service. It is responsible for translating human-friendly names into IP addresses. Route 53 supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes.
Elastic Block Store (EBS) is a web service offering provided by Amazon.com. It is designed to provide block level persistent volumes for use with EC2 instances. An EBS volume is a logical device that appears as a physical drive to the operating system.
